Quotes

Some a quotes i have heard recently.

Illustration

Quality and deadlines don't mix.

Good, fast, cheap:
A client can choose two out of the three but never have all three.
If you do something Good and fast then it won't be cheap.
If you do something Good and cheap then it won't be fast.
If you do something fast and cheap then it won't be good.

Don't get precious over insignificant details.

Writing

Melodrama is between men and things. Tragedy is between men and Gods.

Melodrama is about the powerless.

Composing pictures

Composing pictures by Donald W Graham
Soon to be re-printed (maybe February 2010)

Composing Pictures lucidly explains the principles and approaches of how pictures are put together, and covers all factors that affect composition in traditional and contemporary art, in both still and moving pictures. A wide range of topics are covered with insights to drawing, color, power of borders, surface, symbol, dark and light, space in nature and space in pictures. It goes into the difference between movement and action, multiple station points, drapery as manifestation of forces, and the screen as a graphic surface among other topics in the section on film graphics.

Understanding how a picture is made, rather than a discussion by dissection method, is thoroughly explored stressing how graphic forces work in pictures. Seemingly ordinary topics are met with new and insightful approaches.

The book contains hundreds of diagrams as well as many works of great artists spanning almost all historical ages, cultures and styles. It is designed to be easily used with graphic content accompanying related text on each page.

George and Lynne

George and Lynne is a comic strip that has appeared in the British tabloid The Sun since 1976.

The Sun, 18.02.2005

George & Lynn ace dies
The creator of The Sun’s saucy George and Lynne cartoon strip has died aged 93. Artist and journalist Conrad Frost wrote the racy series for 35 years until an eye condition meant he had to stop in May 2003. Many, including Conrad’s wife, thought the characters were based on people they knew.

George and Lynne always enjoy a healthy sex life and Lynne first appeared topless in the bedroom under a sunlamp in August 1976. In 1984 George finally displayed his bottom after thousands of female fans complained to The Sun that they did not get to see enough of his body.

Conrad died of a stroke after being taken to St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey. His widow Patricia said: "George and Lynne was the thing he was most proud of. Conrad was a gentleman and the world will be a sadder place now he has died." The strip is now drawn by Spanish artist Gual.
